Removing Barriers

Equitable Land Access Project

According to the Agrarian Trust (AT), thousands of farmers and ranchers with 400 million acres of land in the United States are starting to retire, yet the next generation of farmers struggle to access land.

In 2022, MLC formed a partnership with the La Plata Open Space Conservancy and the Old Fort Farm of Fort Lewis College to explore the barriers to land access that face aspiring farmers and others in Southwest Colorado and look for opportunities to increase land accessibility among our community.
