MLC Further Protects West Mancos River
On March 31st, 2026, MLC completed a conservation project with two local landowners, Terri Taylor and Roger Nagel, permanently protecting 165 acres of land along 1.5 miles of the West Fork of the Mancos River, east of Jackson Gulch Reservoir.

The West Mancos easement is part of a conservation vision 24 years in the making. Since 2002, MLC has been proactively working to protect this special area of the Mancos Watershed by preserving over 5 miles of corridor along the West Mancos River. This newest conservation easement helps to further complete this goal. The property shares its northern boundary with State lands and flows directly into 1,168 acres of land protected through five previously completed conservation easements on the river to the south.
This project was made possible thanks to $55,000 in funding received from Keep it Colorado’s Conservation Easement Transaction Cost Assistance Program. MLC is incredibly honored and grateful to work with landowners and community partners to protect the landscapes we all love and cherish in Southwest Colorado.
