Traditional Harvest Featured Nationally

Montezuma Land Conservancy (MLC) is honored to share that our Traditional Harvest Project is featured as a case study in the new “Partnerships for Indigenous Land Access and Return, A Summary of Legal and Relational Pathways.” Created by the Land Trust Alliance and Native Land Conservancy, this powerful resource highlights legal and community-driven pathways to support Indigenous land return and access—through real-world examples of collaboration between land trusts and Indigenous communities.

In the featured case study on our Traditional Harvest Project, staff members Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk, Travis Custer, and Austin Easter share the challenges they’ve faced and their hopes for the future of this meaningful work—emphasizing the importance of relationship building, patience, and respecting tribal sovereignty. We’re deeply grateful for our partnership with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and honored to be one of the organizations highlighted in this national report. We invite you to explore the full guide to learn more about the insightful stories, lessons, and community-led solutions being shared. MLC’s work is featured on pages 53-64 but the whole report is worth the read.
